Date/Year 1985

Abstract/Summary

Summary of rescue excavations in Northwich in the Castle area in the period 1970-3 which recorded evidence of a Roman fort. Also, subsequent excavations, in 1983, at the Bowling site which discovered what was interpreted at the time as a second, later fort on a slightly different axis. There is also discussion in the document of the then forthcoming excavations at the 'Garages' site further to the east, where it was hoped to locate the western defences of the 'previously known eastern fort', also the principium or head quarters building.
