Summary

Carr Mill was built as a cotton spinning mill in 1780s but was used for silk between the 1820s and 1870s, and for fustian cutting by the 1890s. It was converted to a laundry in 1903 for Wilmslow Laundry Co. Ltd. The buildings final sue was as a gelatine works. The mill burnt down in 1923.

This map depicts Carr Mill, labelled as a silk mill, on the northern side of the River Bollin. A sluice is depicted at this location across the river. A smaller building is located to the immediate east.

This photograph isn’t very clear, but it would appear that the mill and its associated features have been demolished.

The mill appears to have been built for cotton spinning in the 1780s, becoming a silk mill between the late 1820s and the 1870s, run by Charles Barber. By the mid-1890s, the mill was used for fustian cutting, before being converted into a laundry in 1903 for the Wilmslow Laundry Co. Ltd. In the early 1920s the premises was used as a gelatine works and suffered a disastrous fire on October 4th 1923, which destroyed the building. Photograph.
