Summary

The south Barn at Hurst Hall was a former early seventeenth century which, by the time of listing in 1983, was being used as a farm building. It was demolished in the late 1980s.

Full Description

Former cottage early seventeenth century now used as farm building. Small red bricks, slate roof, two storeys three bays with single storey outshot east. Altered door and windows. Some with the remains of projecting brick labels. Stone mullion windows to first floor facade and horizontal sliding sash to gable.

Interior: King post trusses with cambered tie beams and intermediate collar trusses with arched braces. Oak purlins and ridgetree wind braces and deep oak wallplate.

Hurst Hall; sixteenth century complex of buildings on three sides of yard, including a barn with a pair of uprights supporting a roof truss. Grade 3.

The location provided by (1) is very inaccurate. The location of the North Barn has been identified (see CHER 611/1/2). The description from the Department of the Environment HHR (Historic Houses Register?) from 1963 (Golborne Urban District Aug 1963 3) “…a sixteenth century complex of buildings on three sides of yard…”. This would suggest that the South Barn was located to its south and corresponds with a building depicted extant at this location until the late 1980s, early 1990s. Listed building consent (84/15589) was granted for the demolition of the barn in 1984.
