Description
This reference is used on Ordnance Survey Record Cards (SCH2487). The Department of the Environment (DOE) which was only created in 1970 (and who implemented the green back reports used to publish the List of Buildings of Special Historic or Architectural Interest). HHR may refer to the Historic Houses Register, but this is uncertain. The HHR may have been related to Historic Buildings Councils, which were responsible for reviewing submissions to the List. If so this may have been published by the Ministry of Public Building and Works (and, after 1966, the Ministry for Housing and Local Government) and retrospectively applied to the DOE by the Ordnance Survey following the transfer of responsibility in 1970. It is possible that this reference may be referring to the Salvage Lists of the 1940s-1960s.
