Full Description
The Roman Gardens, located in between Park St. and Souter's Lane, contain a selection of Roman columns, column bases and a reconstructed hypocaust brought from other sites in Chester, arranged arbitrarily in a cruciform pattern. The hypocaust pillars were arranged to demonstrate how the ancient system worked, and were brought from the Bath House in Bridge Street (CHER 8456) (1, 2). The original context for the other architectural elements in the gardens is less certain.
