Description

The University of Manchester Archaeological Unit undertook a photographic survey of the Roman gardens gateway, Chester. This feature is a small passageway running through the Roman and medieval town walls on its eastern side, roughly 200m south of the eastern gateway. The passageway is assumed to be a late feature of this stretch of walling. The recording work revealed four major phases associated with the gateway, including renovation and repair work from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
