Summary

Grade II listed terrace of seven houses built in 1792 for Lord Stamford, with some early to mid-nineteenth century alterations. A complex of buildings associated with fustian cutting founded by Lord Stamford, developed by the Deardens from mid-nineteenth century. No.15 was the manager's house. Fustian is a mixed fibre cloth of linen, cotton and sometimes silk. It is woven in such a way that the surface can be cut to produce a nap. Cutting was originally done by hand and the cutter needed to walk up and down the room all day. The rooms used for this process needed a long floor space and substantial flooring.
