Full Description
Woodhey Hall built for Sir Thomas Wilbraham in early C17. Mansion of brick with stone dressings and apparently of advanced design. The raised plinth survives alongside the chapel and the loggia which now forms part of the chapel must have come from the house. Mrs Rutter, the owner's wife, reports being shown a view of the house by Lady Tollemache, whose family formerly owned it. Must be compared with Thomas Wilbraham's other house at Tilstone Lodge, of which a Renaissance porch survives (1). According to Ormerod, the house was demolished by 1817 (2). The hall which was demolished was Polledian in style, designed by Lady Wilbraham and completed in 1692. House demolished in 1730s and l740s. Elevation of main facade survives in County Record Office (DTW/ACC 2225) and illustrated in (3).
