Full Description

Accommodation is used as a name by four mines in this small area - Accommodation Deep, Upper Accommodation, Lower Accommodation and Deep Accommodation. The name derives from the name for the lowest coal seam encountered at pits in the Poynton area (c.200-270m deep). All these mines probably dates from the late eighteenth to early nineteenth century.

To the south east of Deep Accomodation Pit lies a depression probably caused by subsidence, centred on what is arguably the remains of Lower Accommodation Pit.
