Plot 75 (on the north-western side of Moggle Lane) is called Coal Pit Bank. Plot 78 opposite has the same name and is depicted as containing a building.

<2> Ordnance Survey, 1871-1882, Ordnance Survey County Series (Epoch 1) 25 inch to 1 mile - Cheshire, SJ9383, 1874-1883 (Maps and Plans). SCH2462.

This map clearly depicts the colliery. It is named Wardsend Pit. Plot 75 (see 1) depicts two old shafts and a steep slope on the valley side, which may be the edge of the associated spoil heaps. Adjacent to the road is a building and weighing machine. The eastern part of the colliery now occupies plots 78, 79 and the northern end of plot 77 (see 1). The building adjacent to Moggle Lane which is depicted on the tithe map is still extant. There are further buildings to the south which are possibly associated with a shaft. A spoil heap is clearly depicted on the eastern side of this area.

<3> Ordnance Survey, 1896-1898, Ordnance Survey First Revision County Series (Epoch 2) 25 inch to 1 mile - Cheshire, SJ9383, 1897-1898 (Maps and Plans). SCH3848.

Only the spoil heaps are depicted. The buildings would appear to have been demolished.

Presumably this is the colliery which is powering the nearby mill (see 4) with water pumped from the mine. This may indicate the presence of a steam or atmospheric engine.

Accommodation: this name is used by four mines at and near Wardsend - Accommodation Deep, Upper Accommodation, Lower Accommodation and Deep Accommodation. This mine, Wardsend Pit, was known as Accommodation Deep. All these mines probably dates from the late eighteenth to early nineteenth century. Accomodation is also the name for the lowest coal seam encountered at pits in the Poynton area (c.200-270m deep).

One of four pits bearing the name Accomodation. Accomodation pit had been closed by 1840.
