Accommodation is used as a name by four mines in this small area - Accommodation Deep, Upper Accommodation, Lower Accommodation and Deep Accommodation. The name derives from the name for the lowest coal seam encountered at pits in the Poynton area (c.200-270m deep). All these mines probably dates from the late eighteenth to early nineteenth century.
This mine was known as Deep Accommodation. The spoil heaps of Deep Accommodation Pit lie immediately east of Waterloo Road.
