Monument record 10252 - 18th century garden features at Lower Bridge Street

Traces of an 18th century garden soil was recorded to the rear of Oddfellows Hall during two phases of archaeological investigation in 2007 and 2009.

The evidence consisted of an 18th century garden soil [context 202] identified in trench 2 of the first phase of archaeological investigation carried out in 2007 immediately to the rear of the property. The garden soil contained fragments of pottery, glass and slate and sealed by an 18th or 19th century make up layer containing pottery fragments. (1)

Later investigations at the rear of the plot in 2009 identified a post medieval garden soil in trench 3, probably contemporary with that recorded in 2007. However in this case no datable finds were recovered. (2)

Subsequent archaeological investigation to the rear of the site in 2011 encountered a linear cut feature [11] with potential linear terminus containing pottery of a primarily 17th to 18th century date. (3)
