Description
An archaeological watching brief and excavation was undertaken at Forest Hill Quarry, Sandiway, Northwich, Cheshire, CW8 2DL, during the phased extension of the quarry, to the north-west. The development area comprises irregular plots of land approximately 8.2ha in extent and comprising arable fields; it is separated into two areas by a railway line between Cuddington to Greenbank stations. Following the removal of topsoil and some subsoil, features identified as of archaeological interest were hand excavated and recorded. These included two datable field boundaries, a pit containing a human cremation radiocarbon dated to the middle Bronze Age, three undated gullies and an undated pit. (1)
