Description
Excavation carried out by Chester Archaeological Service in 1993 as a second phase of work (1). Trench 3 was excavated in 1993, while Trenches 1 and 2 were excavated in 1992 by Gifford and Partners (represented by ECH4271, see R2678). Limitations including incomplete evidence and inconsistencies in the original files were noted by the authors of the report. Some Roman and medieval finds were recorded, largely from post-medieval deposits while a larger assemblage of post-medieval artefacts were also recorded, primarily associated with the construction and occupation of buildings fronting onto Foregate St. Both the evaluation and excavation noted that the potential for waterlogged deposits was high.
