Full Description
A number of post medieval pits were recorded at 105 Foregate Street to the rear of the street frontage. The limited evaluation was carried out within a single test trench in 1993, however the results were not examined in detail until 2011. The area was located in what would have been the very back of the medieval and post medieval burgage plots that lined Foregate Street and as such would be expected to contain numerous rubbish pits, evidence of cultivation as well as ancillary and temporary structures.
A large assemblage of post medieval finds were recovered from the site, largely from stratified fill deposits within the pits, however the limited extent of the excavation and the fragmentary condition of the archive has reduced the potential for interpretation of the assemblage. The finds largely appeared to date to the 18th century. (1)
