Description

A historic fabric building survey of the west tower of St John's Church, in addition to the excavation of one test pit, in advance of the construction of a lavatory block within the remains of the tower's vestibule (1). The tower had been as a ruin since it partially collapsed in 1881. The results from the test pit indicated the presence of late medieval and early post-medieval deposits of 0.2 - 0.5m depth, beneath a cobbled surface which was probably seventeenth or eighteenth century in origin (1).
