Description

This event was an archaeological evaluation in the vestibule of the northwest tower of the Church of St John the Baptist, Chester, in 2000, in advance of the development of a toilet block in this part of the building. The excavation revealed an eighteenth century cobbled surface (now removed), sealing re-deposited rubble from the destruction of the tower in 1573. There may also be remnants of the medieval floor of the shortened Norman nave.
