Description
Visit to site during works to convert the barns to residential use. Ground levels in both barns had been reduced to accommodate new concrete floors but there was little sign of archaeological strata in the exposed areas; modern make up appeared to directly overlie natural sand and clay. The most notable observation was that the northern arm of the moat had been significantly widened during earlier landscaping of the site not connected with the present application. This will have compromised if not destroyed the archaeological potential of this part of the site.
