Description

An archaeological evaluation carried out in Edgar's Field, Chester, in advance of the redevelopment of the children's playground. The location is in the vicinity of (but outside of) the Roman settlement, where a quarry dating to that period was located, and the excavation of three trenches revealed evidence of Roman deposits at a depth of 0.5m. These were interpreted as cultivation soils that had developed from the third century over an area of backfilled Roman quarrying.
