Full Description
Archaeological investigations at Edgar’s Field in 2009 recorded evidence of a sandstone surface of uncertain function and date. The evidence consisted of a sandstone surface 1.4m wide on a north south alignment in the northern end of trench 2 of the excavations. Although no dating evidence was recovered, it is possible this related to more recent landscaping of the park in the early 20th century. (1)
Further archaeological evaluation in the same area in March 2010 recovered a number of finds ranging from the medieval to modern period including pottery from the 14th-15th century and a possible late 17th century Charles II coin. (2)
At the southern end of the trench a pit 0.2m deep was identified containing just two sherds of 18th-19th century pottery. (1)
