Description

The observations suggest strongly that the general location holds great potential and it is likely that well-preserved and significant multi-period features and deposits are extensive, particularly away from the street frontage (1). Of particular significance is the presence of early structural elements - represented by the stone footings - and probable industrial activity - represented by the area of burnt clay. Possible Roman industrial features and Saxon period remains are known from excavations farther down Lower Bridge St. (1).
