Full Description
An indeterminate feature, represented by an area of burnt clay and an associated charcoal lense, was identified during small scale archaeological recording of a new foundation trench at 6 – 10 Lower Bridge St. (or the Falcon Public House) (1).
The feature may suggest an area of Roman industrial activity, and contained several pottery sherds, including black burnished ware of the second to third century. This was the earliest archaeological feature identified during this particular investigation, and had been disturbed by both a later Roman pit (CHER 8121) and a wall footing (CHER 8120) (1).
