Description

As a result of a planning application made by Manweb in 1991, Chester City Council determined that an archaeological evaluation of the site was required (1). Two small trial trenches were dug in the park. Cultivation deposits were found dating back to at least the medieval and possibly to the Roman period. The excavators conluded that prior to this, a substantial building appears to have existed nearby, possibly the suburban villa of a wealthy individual. The second trial trench proved to have been located over the line of a drain which had disturbed all the ancient deposits (1).
