Description
An archaeological evaluation carried out to determine the extent and significance of the surviving archaeological record in this area on the north side of Hamilton Place, Chester, to assess the impact of future redevelopment. Five trial trenches were excavated, revealing that significant parts of the Roman Elliptical Building survive at this location. Importantily, this represents the only surviving portion of this building. Structural remains of small houses dating to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were also recorded, in addition to evidence of Saxon activity.
