Monument record 8195 - Perimeter wall south of the elliptical building baths

Summary
Traces of a substantial wall was recorded during archaeological investigations to the north of Hamilton Place in 1992. The wall, recorded in two places on the site, has been interpreted as a perimeter wall for an enclosed courtyard, possibly linked to the bath complex to the east.

Full Description
Archaeological investigations at Hamilton Place in 1992 recorded a number of sandstone blocks in trench 1 interpreted as an east-west aligned perimeter wall believed to belong to the insula containing the elliptical building. Further traces of an east-west aligned sandstone wall was recorded in trench 4 some distance to the west of trench 1. (1)
