Monument record 10189 - medieval activity at 12 Hamilton Place

Archaeological investigations at Hamilton Place in 1992 recorded traces of marginal medieval activity at this site to the rear of properties along the main streets of Chester. The medieval activity was limited cultivation soils dated through small quantities of medieval pottery, most notably in trench 5 although further indications of cultivation of an uncertain date were noted in trench 3. (1)

Subsequent archaeological investigations in 1994 at the same site identified at least one medieval pit in the area containing substantial medieval pottery and animal bone of a broadly 14th century date. (2)
