Description

In 1908, in advance of the construction of a new Exchange Station for the National Telephone Company, the Council of the Chester and North Wales Archaeological Society secured the right to monitor groundworks and carry out some excavation at the site, just next to the Wolf Tower, where a section of the Roman city wall remained preserved. The Chester Archaeological Society was, at the time, able to have the original construction plans altered to preserve more of the Roman wall than would have been (6). Referred to as Site No. 28 in the City Defences Monograph (7)
