Source/Archive record SCH8381 - The Ridge: Rocks and Springs - A Sandstone Legacy

Research project undertaken by volunteers of Cheshire's Sandstone Ridge Trust from 2014-2017. Work undertaken comprised desk-based research including investigation of historic maps and records, ground survey to locate and record grafitti, rock art, caves, ancient wells and quarries, also some more detailed field investigations for sites of particular interest. The project built upon work of previous projects such as the Sandstone Ridge ECOnet Partnership (2005-09) and the HLF-funded Habitats and Hillforts Landscape Partnership Scheme (2008-12). A digital database was created as part of the project recording over 700 sites. ( see SCH8436) The resulting book examines the results of the project. Additionally it includes nine circular walks, created by the volunteers, incorporating some of the sites recorded.
