Monument record 2855/0/7 - Pillbox at Park Farm
Please read our guidance about the use of Cheshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
This is a type 24 pillbox to the south of RAF Hooton Park Airfield. Type 24 pillboxes were normally squat heavily constructed concrete buildings, although this one is made from clay brick and concrete. They were irregular hexagons in shape with the back side being the longest and containing the door and an embrasure either side of it. The other sides all had an embrasure, which were small rectangular openings in walls used to allow soldiers defended in the pillbox to shoot out at, or observe the enemy. It covers the ground to the West and was part of the RAF Hooton Park defences. It probably housed soldiers with light weaponry such as rifles and was built during World War Two, a time when most other pillboxes around Britain were constructed.
