Summary

A cropmark photographed in August 1995 shows one side and two corners of a possible rectangular enclosure. There is a possible entrance gap midway along one side. One of a number of possible practice camps close to the legionary fortress at Chester. Practice camps are thought to have been built by roman troops to train in earthwork construction.

Cropmark photographed August 1995 of one side and two corners of a possible rectangular enclosure. Possible entrance gap midway along one side. Possible practice camp associated with 'Upton type' enclosures (RN 1970/1-9)(1).

No.11 One of a group of a series of subrectangular enclosures within a few kilometres of Chester. A discussion about the interpretation of these features can be found in this article. New discoveries from aerial photography and excavation support a Roman Military origin.

A geophysical survey was undertaken in 2023 over the site of the potential Roman camp. Although, weak linear anomalies were recorded they are thought likely to be of agricultural origin. Medieval or post-medieval ridge and furrow cultivation was detected across the site of the camp.
