Please read our guidance about the use of Cheshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Former fustian cutting shop known as Hawthorn Street Mill. It was started by Mr. Clare, after Bollin Walk, in 1900, and worked by the Platt family between 1910-20. It is two storeys high with large rectangular windows.
Fustian is a mixed fibre cloth of linen, cotton and sometimes silk. It is woven in such a way that the surface can be cut to produce a nap. Cutting was originally done by hand and the cutter needed to walk up and down the room all day. The rooms used for this process needed a long floor space and substantial flooring.
