Summary

The site of a now destroyed large, possibly military, depot. It was connected by rail to the Manchester to Birmingham Railway. It may be associated with CHER 4643/1 to the west.

Full Description

Disused, possibly (former) military depot south and west of the present government office. The majority of the buildings on the southern part of the site have been demolished. Connected by rail to the Manchester to Birmingham Railway (1). A large, possibly military depot, evidently still in use is visible on aerial photographs dating from the 1940s. The northern part of the depot is arranged around a branch from the Manchester to Birmingham Railway (2). The site is now destroyed (3). Described as an 'Army Camp' and may be associated with CHER4643/1 to the west (4).
