Please read our .

Summary

A section of road was exposed in a pipe trench cut across Heath Lane. It had a structure of cobbles and sandstone set in red clay but no kerbs or side ditches. A Roman road has been traced along the length of the Wirral from Chester. The alignment starts from the Northgate of the fortress of Chester and followed a course through Mollington and Ledsham, then by minor roads and lanes to Street Hey, Willaston. From then on the exact course is unclear but is is suggested that the destination was Meols, a port on the tip of the Wirral in Roman and later times.
