No.37 Welsh Row was a brick early C19 house and shop demolished to improve access to St Anne's Lane. The interior retained one truss suggesting a C17 timber-framed precursor. Primitive excavations within the building and a watching brief during demolition showed that there were three layers in which waterlogged wood survived. The upper two consisted of flat cleft boarding separated by a fill of black sandy silt. At 2m depth, more substantial beams were found running parallel to Welsh Row and at c.2m centres. No finds were made. A small trench was excavated in the rear garden. Just over 1m of garden soil was excavated onto a clay surface with crushed brick fragments. Some early post medieval pot was recovered.
