To the south-west of Beeston Stone Lock is a circular brick “hut”, probably mid-late 19th century, with a domed roof, stone cornice and boarded door. Adjacent is a short exposed section of the overflow (spillway) channel, allowing excess water to bypass the lock. This would have been used by a “linkman” or “lengths-man” who maintained this stretch of the canal. It is one of three similar round huts on the canal, which form a unique group.
