A heritage statement was produced in 2019 for Number 4 King Street, prior to proposed alteration. The property is believed to have been originally built for residential purposes however has been used for office purposes of late. Built circa 1820, with an extension to the rear of the property at ground floor, the property is accessed directly off King Street. The exact date of the ground floor rear extension, containing storage space and a w/c, is uncertain, however it is assumed to have been completed between the years of 1909 and 1967 as it does not seem to appear on mapping prior. This rear extension is not part of the original structure and is of significantly more recent addition. It is not of high-quality construction and of no particular merit or note. Due to these reasons, although it forms part of the chronology of development its historic significance to the building’s fabric is considered to be of lower value than that of the original structure. Externally the buildings features are relatively simple and common for King Street, rectangular, symmetrical sash windows with stone sills and a central door within reeded doorcases. This façade is considered to be of historic significance in maintaining the character of the streetscape to King Street and as such is worthy to be retained without change. It could do with some repair work and refurbishment but no major defects have been noted.
