Summary

Hall o' Lee Colliery was established sometime between 1840 and 1888. Historic maps dating from 1899 depict an old shaft at this location. It is possibly a ventilation shaft associated with the mine below.

A post medieval colliery is visible as earthworks on air photographs centred at SJ 8448 5631. The colliery is visible as an area of disturbed ground and the extent of the site was mapped as part of the Staffordshire National Mapping Programme Project. The colliery is connected to the Macclesfield Canal by a tramway recorded separately in UID 1593238 [see CHER 7869/2/2]. The colliery is also depicted on historic Ordnance Survey mapping and no longer extant on the latest 2010 vertical photography (see 2, 6 & 7).
