Full Description

The tithe map depicts a group of buildings arranged around a courtyard and adjacent to Gunko Lane. The award describes them as Houses and Yard in the ownership of the Reverend Francis Stonehewer Newbold.

This map depicts two parallel terraces of possible houses either side of a yard and running parallel to Gunko Lane. The eastern terrace comprises four houses with a smaller structure at the southern end. The western block comprises three houses adjoining Gunko Lane and two further houses to the immediate north, orientated at 90 degrees to the first three. A covered alley way lies between these houses and allows access to the courtyard which lies between the two terraces. Where the courtyard isn't defined by the terraces, it is walled. A water tap is located within the courtyard.

The eastern terrace has been demolished, but the smaller building to the south has been retained.

The Rev. Francis Stonehewer Newbold was the headmaster of The King's School in Macclesfield from 1828–1837.
