Full Description
In the eighteenth century, the land between Souter's Lane and The City Wall, later to be turned into the Roman Gardens (CHER 11028) was known as Cock Fight Hill, as it was the site of the city's cockpit. The last cockpit was built at this location as late as 1825, which was only twenty-four years before public cock-fighting was abolished (1 - 4).
