SJ4065NE CITY WALLS 595-1/6/126 Part of City Walls from Bridgegate 28/07/55 to drum tower 50 metres east (Formerly Listed as: City Walls & Towers incl. foundations of SE angle Roman Fortress wall & tower)

Length of City Walls from tower approx 50m east of Bridgegate (qv) to the Bridgegate (qv). Late C11 to early C12 converted to a raised promenade 1702-8, repaired in various periods and altered adjoining the Bridgegate, Lower Bridge Street 1782 by Joseph Turner. Coursed red sandstone rubble. The ground level within the wall is approximately equal to the wall walk, sloping down to Lower Bridge Street, east, but with a drop of up to 7m on the outer side.
