Summary

Archaeological investigations at the Roodee Racecourse in 2004 identified traces of several brick roads of a possible 18th century date. The evidence comprised a brick cambered surface in the north western part of the site at a depth of 0.02m below the present ground level. The contexts appeared to represent two road surfaces, one on a north-south alignment was also recorded in trench 1. A third road surface was also encountered.

Archaeological investigations at the Roodee Racecourse in 2004 identified traces of several brick roads of a possible 18th century date.

The evidence comprised a brick cambered surface [contexts 9, 11] in the north western part of the site at a depth of 0.02m below the present ground level. The contexts appeared to represent two road surfaces, one on a north-south alignment was also recorded in trench 1. A third road surface [context 16] was also encountered.
