Full Description
The Crane Bank Wharf is first recorded on de Levaux’s map of 1745, consisting of a crane, a stone quay projecting into the river and two rectangular structures to either end of the quay.
Archaeological investigations in the area in 2000 identified a sandstone rubble wall or bank in a small trial trench. The feature appeared to run north west to south east and may have been the southern boundary of the Crane Bank recorded on early Ordnance Survey maps. (1)
