Description
Archaeological evaluation in advance of development proposals for improvement and flood defence construction in the area of the Old Port. A previous desk based assessment has already been carried out noting three riverside crane bases shown on early maps of the area.
The results of the evaluation has located the remains of one base, and perhaps the disturbed remains of another. Overall the potential impact on the archaeology will depend on the location and depth of ground disturbance.
The evaluation also noted evidence for a former World War II air raid shelter and the structure was recorded.
