Archaeological investigations at the Canal side redevelopment in 2001 identified possible evidence of Roman activity at this location (1, 2). What was identified as a possible, mixed thin cultivation layer or a ground surface containing Roman pottery at several locations across the site, in addition to a pit that cut this horizon in Trench 6 that also contained ceramics (1, 2). No other information on the nature of these finds is available.
