Full Description
Archaeological investigations to the rear of 29 Foregate St. in 1998 identified a number of Roman features (1). The investigations remain in unpublished and no trench plan is attached to the available archive notes. However, the excavators identified a well or structure in Trench 4 (1).
Made of reddish brown sandstone blocks, bonded by a friable clay. The excavators suggested that the structure resembled a possible well or pit coping, enclosed by a wall, and report that Roman pottery was found in association (1).
