Please read our .

Summary

Evidence of medieval stone robbing of surviving sections of the Fortress Baths was encountered during archaeological investigations to the east of Bridge Street in the 1960s. The investigations carried out under emergency rescue conditions were necessarily rapid, however, in a number of locations it was possible to identify robber trenches containing pottery of a 13th-14th century date, particularly at the south end of the complex.
