Full Description
Archaeological investigations to the rear of 33 Lower Bridge Street identified a series of post medieval deposits overlying the medieval pits and garden soils.
The evidence indicates activity in the area throughout the 16th and 17th century represented by an accumulation of soil and debris in trench 1 of the excavations [context 28]. This accumulation is then sealed by a demolition layer from a nearby structure in the 17th century. Traces of limited industrial activity in the area, comprising deposits of carbonised wood, was also recorded. (2)
A subsequent watching brief also revealed a stone lined pit containing quantities of 18th century pottery sealed by another demolition spread and a single post hole of uncertain function. (1)
