Monument record 10176 - Possible medieval tile kiln at Lower Bridge Street

Archaeological investigations carried out in two phases to the rear of 49-51 Lower Bridge Street in 1990 identified a complex series of phases from the Roman through to the post medieval period. Unfortunately the second phase excavation remains largely unpublished and information is limited, the phased activity at the site was produced by subsequent examination of the primary archive. (2)

Evidence of a possible medieval tile kiln was recorded during archaeological investigations at Lower Bridge Street in 1991. The evidence consisted of a quantity of medieval floor tiles including several that showed signs of misfiring or kiln waste products. (2)
