Monument record 8441 - Roman structure at Commonhall Street

Archaeological investigations at the site of 12-22 Commonhall Street in 1991 recorded evidence of substantial archaeological deposits from the Roman period. There were indications of a Roman structure to the north of the site, in particular trench 6 recorded evidence of stone walls indicating a well constructed stone building. Despite the limited extent of area excavated it is clear that at least one Roman structure was in existence at Commonhall Street (1).

Subsequent investigations across the site in 2003 recorded evidence of several Roman pits and features across the site including a possible wall foundation (4).

The evidence from Commonhall Street however remains fragmentary and contributes only limited information to our knowledge of Roman activity in this part of the fortress however.
