Full Description
What was interpreted as a cultivation soil layer containing Roman pottery manufactured at Holt between AD 90 – 130, was identified during an archaeological evaluation at 14 – 18 Duke St., Chester, in 2002 (1).
The layer sealed a possible sewer or drain (CHER 8116). Its presence at this location suggested, to the authors of the excavations’ report, the site was beyond the edge of the Fortress Canabae during the first half of the second century (1).
